tennis is popular (again)

The results so far for 2021 are in! Statistics coming out of our industry are once again good following the tremendous growth trajectory from 2020, as you can tell from the screenshot below from the USTA. In the first half of this year (2021), total tennis racquet shipments increased by 41% and sales of racquets over $50 were up 143%. Stringing also increased!

We’ve written about the reasons why tennis is so popular. Throughout the pandemic, the sport was touted for its safe physical distancing and its numerous health benefits. With the pandemic not yet in our rearview mirror, tennis is still a safe bet when considering what physical activities to do. Safety and health, yes. It also happens to be a lot of fun!

These statistics about racquet sales and shipments are promising because it means more people are likely to hit the courts. It will be interesting to see the data at the end of the year about overall participation. Our guess is that those numbers will show even more people have played tennis this year than any other in recent history.

It’s a great time to play tennis. If you’re a beginner, it’s a great time to learn tennis. Get out and play today, and join the fun!
